Symphony Orchestra Season Opener: Collaboration Concert

Sonoma State Symphony conductor Alexander Kahn

Join us for works by Telemann, Vivaldi and Beethoven!

The Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2018-19 season in collaboration with Musicians from Valley of the Moon Festival who will open the concert with the Piano Trio in E Major by Franz Josef Haydn. Maria Romero and Carla Moore will be the featured soloists in the Concerto Grosso Op. 3 no. 8 by Vivaldi. Winners of the 3rd annual Orchestra Concerto Competition, Spencer Causey (horn) and John Mayer (trombone) will play Telemann's Concerto in D for two horns. The concert will conclude with Beethoven’s visceral and rip-roaring Symphony No. 7, famously described by Richard Wagner "the apotheosis of the dance,". Alexander Kahn conducts.

Program:

  • Haydn | Piano Trio in E (Maria Romero, violin; Tanya Tomkins, cello; Eric Zivian, fortepiano)
  • Telemann | Concerto for Two Horns in D (Spencer Causey, horn; John Mayer, trombone)
  • Vivaldi | Concerto Grosso Op. 3 no. 8 (Carla Moore and Maria Romero, violins)
