Vocal Repertoire Concert: The Songs of Clara Schumann

Painting of Clara Schumann at the piano

The vocal students of Sonoma State University present the nearly all of Clara Schumann’s songs for voice and piano. Guest artist, Dr. Kayleen Asbo, will narrate and illuminate this program of soulful, poetic music, as well as playing one of Schumann’s piano works. Clara’s relationships with husband Robert, Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, and many of the greatest musicians of the 19th century will infuse this song-story with history, artistry, and passion.

The SSU Vocal Program is a thriving wing of the SSU Music Department. Voice students participate in a broad range of performance activities including major choral-orchestral works, opera, chamber music, musical theatre and solo recitals. The performance program is augmented by a strong curriculum in theory, ear training and piano and music history, helping the student to develop as a complete musician. Vocal Repertory class is required of all Performance majors whose primary performing medium is the voice.
