Welcome to the 2018-19 season of concerts for the voice. Here you will find student and faculty voice recitals, choral concerts, music theatre and opera productions. The vocal program is led by Jenny Bent, Director of Choral Activities, and Lynne Morrow, Director of Opera and Music Theatre.

The SSU Vocal Program is a thriving wing of the SSU Music Department. Voice students participate in a broad range of performance activities including major choral-orchestral works, opera, chamber music, musical theatre and solo recitals. The performance program is augmented by a strong curriculum in theory, ear training and piano and music history, helping the student to develop as a complete musician. Students audition for private instruction placement with our voice faculty. Vocal Repertory class is required of all Performance majors whose primary performing medium is the voice.View Event Details

Vocal Faculty Recital

Voice faculty members Jane Erwin Hammett, soprano; Zachary Gordin, baritone; and Justin Montigne, countertenor will join together for a recital of “Bel Canto” (beautiful singing), on a program including arias from opera and operetta, art songs and songs from Broadway and musical theatre.

In addition to Sonoma State, Jane Erwin Hammett is on the faculty at American Conservatory Theater (ACT) and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (Summer Music West). Symphonic Chorus

The SSU Symphonic Chorus, led by Dr. Jenny Bent, Director of Choral Activities is comprised of music majors, students from other majors, staff, faculty, and members of the community. Singers must pass an audition and experience and sight-reading skills are required. Numbering between 60-80 singers, the Symphonic Chorus presents two-to-three major concerts each semester, performing large works such as the Mozart Requiem and Orff's Carmina Burana , as well as the annual Holiday Concert By Candlelight.
