Welcome to the Spring 2020 season of concerts for the voice. Here you will find student and faculty voice recitals, choral concerts, music theatre and opera productions. The vocal program is led by Jenny Bent, Director of Choral Activities, and Lynne Morrow, Director of Opera and Music Theatre.

Vocal Repertory Recital: Happy Songs

This midterm recital—SSU singers’ first opportunity to perform for an audience this fall—will treat listeners to the lighter side of song. Performers will flex their muscles of humor and whimsy, showcasing witty patter, comedic physicality, and wistful lyricism. Happy Songs will provide the perfect midday fall escape from worry and care, and performers and audience alike will leave the performance with a smile on their lips and a song in their hearts.

2021 Sonoma State University November Choral Festival

The SSU Choral Festival is full, and we are no longer accepting new registrations.

The 2021 Sonoma State University Choral Festival will be held Friday, November 12 in Weill Hall. The festival is open to high school and junior college choirs. Please make sure to register on our Google Form .

Registration Fee

The registration fee is $150 per chorus. Checks should be payable to Sonoma State University and must be received by Friday, October 22nd.

Opera Scenes: OPERA IS EVERYWHERE

This fall, Opera Scenes students will choose their favorite song, which can be in any genre or style, and prepare it musically and with attention to its context, lyrics, themes, and anything else of performance import or that makes it a favorite. After these songs are chosen, we will find operatic repertoire that incorporates themes, stylistic elements, or other commonalities with these favorite songs and weave them into a staged program of around 70 minutes. Vocal Repertory Recital: Source Songs

For their final semester performance, the SSU singers will explore their past, their families, and the music that is woven into the fabric of their lives. Reflecting on the source of their identities, singers will choose songs that have deep personal meaning and express them best, both their current selves and as part of their lineage over time.
