About

Eric Cabalo is the director of classical guitar studies at Sonoma State University. He is a multi-award-winning performer and educator. Eric received his Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of music where he studied performance, composition, and improvisation with internationally acclaimed guitarist/composer Dusan Bogdanovic. He was selected to perform in the master classes of such distinguished guitarists as: Manuel Barrueco, Eliot Fisk, Christopher Parkening, David Russell, David Tanenbaum and Jose Tomas.

Eric performs often as a soloist and chamber musician. He performed regularly with guitarist Stuart Green as the Cabalo/Green Duo. He released a solo guitar recording of South American music, Evocacion, which was highly acclaimed by his peers. A dedicated educator, Eric also teaches privately and is the founder of Cabalo Guitar Studio, a classical guitar program providing lessons for children and adults since 2000. In addition, he has written guitar method books for children, GuitarPlay, and for university guitar programs, Class Guitar.

The Sonoma State Guitar Ensemble under Eric’s direction perform eclectic repertoire ranging from traditional classical music, contemporary pieces written for guitar ensemble and arrangements of rock tunes as well. Eric also encourages student composers to write for guitar ensemble and have their works performed.

A passionate advocate for classical guitar Eric has also created the Classical Guitar Guest Artist Series where virtuoso performers come from all over the world to give concerts and master classes at Sonoma State. This affords the opportunity for students and the public to enjoy high level performances and instruction. Eric joined the SSU faculty in 2005.
