We regret to inform you, that in the interest of public health, we have decided to cancel this performance based on the guidance from the California Department of Public Health. Please continue to check our website at music.sonoma.edu for updates.

Voice faculty members Jane Erwin, soprano; Zachary Gordin, baritone; and Justin Montigne, countertenor will join together for a recital of  “Bel Canto” (beautiful singing), on a program including arias from opera and operetta, art songs and songs from Broadway and musical theatre.

In addition to Sonoma State, Jane Erwin is on the faculty at American Conservatory Theater (ACT) and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (Summer Music West).  At ACT she has taught singing, acting and musical theater in both the Young Conservatory and the MFA Progam, as well as served as Musical Director for five Young Conservatory world premiere musicals, and co-directed, with Young Conservatory Director Craig Slaight, the Young Conservatory Cabaret and Musical Ensembles.

Baritone Zachary Gordin is redefining what it means to be an operatic soloist in the 21st Century; praised for his “arresting musical insights” and a voice that is “commanding and intense without ever descending into coarseness” (The Seattle Times) while also maintaining his passion for fitness, community engagement, and artist mentoring.

Justin Montigne is a countertenor soloist, church musician, choral coach, and voice instructor in the San Francisco Bay Area. He specializes in body awareness for singers (SingAsana), and teaches master classes and workshops around the world. Dr. Montigne is the Director of Voice Studies for the Grammy Award Winning San Francisco Girls Chorus, a co-founder and director of the Bay Area Vocal Academy, and a founding member of the professional men's vocal ensemble, Clerestory.  Body awareness, breath, and communication are central tenets of Dr. Montigne's vocal pedagogy and his own singing, and he is enthusiastic about sharing them with his new students and colleagues at Sonoma State University.
