Band Season

Welcome to the University Bands Spring 2020 concert season. We have two performing ensembles: Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. conducted by Dr. Andy Collinsworth conducts both as well as Noma Winds which involves our credential students and high school students from across the county directed by Dr. Kim Mieder.

The season includes full-length concerts and three free mini-performances as part of the annual Wind Band and Orchestra Festival on March 11-13.

We're back making live music again! Join us in a concert celebration of familiar favorites, sentimental melodies and toe-tappers. Featured selections include Rossini's iconic Overture to The Italian in Algiers, John Williams' music to the film The Cowboys, William Grant Still's Folk Suite, marches by Fillmore and Sousa, and much more!

Symphonic Wind Ensemble: Frankenstein

The Sonoma State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble will bring to life, with music by composer Michael Shapiro, James Whale’s classic thriller Frankenstein! Starring Colin Clive and Boris Karloff in his debuting role as the Monster, the 1931 classic film did not contain any incidental music.

Thanks to composer Michael Shapiro, that has changed! The SWE will perform his haunting 2002 score to accompany the screening of the film! Bring the popcorn and don your favorite costume, because this event is going to be a scream !
