Transfer Advising BM Teacher Preparation

Theory

Theory III (MUS 310) and Theory IV (MUS 410) are residency requirements, as per the university catalog. These courses must be taken in sequence. Lower division transfers may need to take MUS 210 Theory II.

Musicianship

Musicianship/Ear Training courses taken at a community college may be transferred in. 4 semesters of musicianship courses are required.

History

Music History courses taken at a community college may be transferred in.  Required courses in the degree program:

  • MUS 150 Survey of U.S. Music or MUS 343 Jazz History
  • MUS 251 History of Western Music Ancient to 1750
  • MUS 351 History of Western Music 1750-present
  • MUS 350 Survey of World Music 

 

Performing Ensembles

One ensemble required each semester in residence. Some scholarship recipients must take 2 ensembles each semester.

Private Lessons

MUS 447 Applied Music Studies is required every semester in residence. A permission code from the department is required.

Repertory Class

MUS 451 Instrumental or Vocal Repertory is required every semester in residence.

Keyboard Proficiency

Keyboard courses taken at a community college may be transferred in.

Diction (Voice majors only)

4 semesters of MUS 451 Instrumental or Vocal Repertory are required.
