Juries

Students enrolled in Applied Music courses are required to pass a juried performance at the end of each semester, to evaluate their musical progress. The jury consists of approximately 10 minutes of material, as assigned by the private instructor.
A faculty adjudication panel will assess the jury performance using rubrics that are designed for each area of specialty: classical instrumental, piano, percussion, voice, and jazz.
The minimum passing score for students in Bachelor of Music degree programs is 75 points (out of 100) to pass. The minimum passing score for students in Bachelor of Arts degree programs is 65 points (out of 100). The jury grade counts as 25% of the student’s private instruction grade for the semester.
Probation
Any student who does not achieve the minimum score for their degree program, or fails to complete a jury, will be notified by the Department and placed on probationary status the following semester.
A student on probation is responsible for scheduling a remediation jury before the end of the probationary semester, in consultation with the studio instructor, accompanist, program director, and other faculty. The student is also expected to pass the jury for the current semester.
A student who fails to remediate the jury, or who does not pass a jury in two consecutive semesters may be removed from the program.
A student on probation will forfeit any scholarship (if applicable).
