Prospective Students
An audition is required for admission to all music degree programs. Applicants completing a live on-campus audition receive priority consideration for admission into the program and a music scholarship.
Applicants living more than 250 miles from campus may choose to submit a video recorded audition (such as a YouTube link) for admission into the program, but are not considered for scholarships. Additionally, such students may only be accepted on provisional status until a live audition is successfully completed within the first semester of study. This live audition could take place immediately or at any time within that first semester, at the discretion of the area faculty.
Applicants should bring three copies of their repertoire to give to the audition panel. An accompanist is provided for vocalists. Accompaniment is optional for instrumentalists. A live rhythm section is provided for jazz applicants.
Prospective students are encouraged to review the Prospective Student Auditions. Please note that these are suggested audition materials and represent the minimum level of proficiency required for admission. It is most important that you prepare an audition that best demonstrates your musical and technical capabilities in your chosen performing medium.
Applicants to the Bachelor of Music Composition degree program must audition on their major instrument/voice and upload two notated scores and recordings of your original work. PDF and mp3 files are preferred. MIDI or live performance recordings of scores are acceptable.
Your application is due one week before your desired audition date. On-campus audition dates can be found on the Audition Requirements page.
