Composer Oscar Navarro Residency October 8 – 11
Spanish composer Oscar Navarro will be on campus this week to work with SSU Wind Ensemble and students in the composition program.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present a concert performance featuring Oscar’s music for wind band on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30 pm in Weill Hall. The concert will feature three North American premieres, including a performance of Oscar’s first concerto for saxophone, Infinity, performed by SSU Saxophone Professor Dr. Andrew Harrison; Abrazos para El Cielo (Hugs for Heaven), a beautiful vocal setting performed by SSU alumna Esther Renee Rayo; and Jenaro Melguizo, a rousing new paso doble. His overture entitled Oconomowoc will open the program, and Oscar will guest conduct his epic symphonic poem, Libertadores to close the program.
Oscar will present a free composition masterclass Thursday October 10, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Green Music Center.
