NATS Singing Festival winners recital took place earlier this month in Schroeder Hall at Green Music Center. This was the first in-person festival since the covid-19 shutdown. Yvonne Wormer, one of the pianists for the classical division, represented Sonoma State University along with voice teacher, Christa Durand.

There were many participants in a variety of categories: Classical, Musical Theater, and Contemporary Commercial Music (jazz, pop, country etc) including five Sonoma State students: Emily Rae Fealy, Gabby Giddings, Rachel Archambault, Melody Rose Neal and Sam Martin.

Rachel was selected to participate in a master class after the competition of her age division was finished and two of our students, soprano Melody Rose Neal, senior, and tenor Sam Martin, freshman, won in their respective age divisions: Melody in Music Theater, and Sam in Classical. They were each awarded financial scholarships.

SSU alum and former voice faculty, Ms. Jenni Samuelson was also in attendance as one of the Classical division adjudicators.

"She was as dynamic, energetic and passionate and supportive as she was when she taught at SSU some 15 years or so ago." -Yvonne Wormer
