Recital & Senior Projects Forms and Procedures

Poster Guidelines

Students must create and submit a digital poster for their Junior or Senior Recital. A printed poster is optional.

  • At the top of the poster, include: Sonoma State University, Department of Music.
  • Include the name of the performer and instrument or vocal designation.
  • Include “From the studio of” followed by the instructor's name.
  • Include the heading Junior Recital or Senior Recital.
  • Include the date of the recital, including the year.
  • Include the time and location of the recital.

Digital Poster Requirements

The following digital poster is required:

  • 1920 x 1080 pixels (horizontal/landscape) for display on TV screens throughout the Green Music Center.
  • Email the completed digital poster to Gustavo Pimentel Perez at perezgu@sonoma.edu.

Students are also encouraged to create a 1080 x 1920 pixel (vertical/portrait) version for social media.

Creating the Correct Size in Canva

You do not need a Canva Pro account to create a poster at the required size. If Canva's automatic resize feature is unavailable with your account, create a new design using custom dimensions.

  1. In Canva, select Create a design and choose Custom size.
  2. Make sure the unit is set to px (pixels).
  3. For the required TV-screen poster, enter 1920 for the width and 1080 for the height.
  4. Create your poster and make sure all important information is easy to read.
  5. Download the completed poster and email it to perezgu@sonoma.edu.

Optional social media version: Create a second Canva design using 1080 x 1920 pixels. If you already created the horizontal poster, you can copy and paste your design elements into the new vertical design and rearrange them to fit.

Printed Posters

Printed posters are optional. If you choose to print and post your recital poster, use letter-sized paper (8.5 x 11 inches) or legal-sized paper (8.5 x 14 inches). Once approved, you may post one poster per bulletin board. Do not post posters on walls or glass doors.
