Bachelor of Music in Education

Entrance:

  1. 3-octave scales and arpeggios in one major key and one minor key of choice
  2. A technical etude or caprice
  3. First movement of a concerto, including applicable cadenza.

 

Freshman Year:

  1. A major composition for the violin with/without piano accompaniment by one of the following composers:
    Handel, J.S. Bach, Tartini, Vivaldi, Leclair, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven
  2. One movement of a Classical concerto.
  3. Choice of three- octaves scale and arpeggios in single stops in from the Carl Flesch Scales System;
  4. An etude by Schradieck and one by Kreutze.

Sophomore Year:

  1. A virtuosic showpiece best demonstrates his/her/their overall instrumental command,
  2. A composition for violin with/without piano accompaniment that was written after the year 1920.
  3. One movement of a Romantic concerto.
  4. From the Carl Flesch Scale Systems:  a choice of 3 octave scales and arpeggios in single along with double scales patterns of thirds, sixths, and octaves in two major and minor keys of choice ;
  5. An etude by Schradieck and one by Kreutzer.

Junior Year:

  1. A complete major recital work from the Romantic period,
  2. A complete concerto of choice.
  3. Two contrasting movements of Bach unaccompanied violin work;
    One advance etude/caprice by one of these composers: Dont, Schradieck, Rode, Wieniawski, Paganini.

Senior Year (recital):

  1. A major composition for the violin with/without piano accompaniment by one of the following composers: Handel, J.S. Bach, Tartini, Vivaldi, Leclair, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven 
  2. A virtuosic showpiece best demonstrates his/her/their overall instrumental command;
  3. A complete major recital work from the Romantic period;
  4. A composition for violin with/without piano accompaniment that was written after the year 1920.

 

Bachelor of Music in Performance

 

Entrance:

  1. 3 octave scales and arpeggios in one major key and one minor key of choice
  2. A technical etude or caprice,
  3. First movement of a concerto including applicable cadenza

Freshman:

  1. Program must include a complete work for unaccompanied violin by J.S. Bach
  2. One movement of a Classical concerto
  3. Choice of three- octaves scale and arpeggios in single stops in from the Carl Flesch Scales System;
  4. A recital work of choice.

Sophomore Year:

  1. Two caprices by Paganini, or a showpiece of equivalent virtuosity.
  2. One movement of a Romantic concerto.
  3. From the Carl Flesch Scale Systems:  a choice of 3-octave scales and arpeggios in single along with double scales patterns of thirds, sixths, and octaves, tens in two major and minor keys of choice ;
  4. A major work from standard repertoire.

Junior Year:

  1. A complete sonata for violin and piano by one of these composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Copland, Corigliano, Debussy, Faure, Franck, Prokofiev, Ravel, Schumann, Saint-Saens, Strauss
  2. A complete Classical concerto of choice.
  3. A complete Bach unaccompanied violin work;
  4. A modern composition of choice.

Senior Year (recital):

  1. A complete work for unaccompanied violin by J.S. Bach
  2. Two caprices by Paganini, or a showpiece of equivalent virtuosity.
  3. A complete sonata for violin and piano by one of these composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Copland, Corigliano, Debussy, Faure, Franck, Prokofiev, Ravel, Schumann, Saint-Saens, Strauss
  4. A modern composition written after 1920
