SCALES

Freshmen must prepare and sing a major scale on solfege or a neutral syllable in the key of their choice.
Sophomores must prepare and sing a natural minor scale on solfege or a neutral syllable in the key of their choice.
Juniors must prepare and sing a harmonic minor scale on solfege or a neutral syllable in the key of their choice.
Seniors must prepare and sing a melodic minor scale on solfege or a neutral syllable in the key of their choice.

REPERTOIRE

Students must be prepared to perform the number and type of songs for their degree program and year as laid out in the Private Voice Syllabus.
Repertoire may also include solos or ensembles from the semester’s music theatre and opera courses if applicable and approved by the student’s private voice teacher.

All music must be performed with piano accompaniment and/or any instrumental collaborators required by the score.
The student’s assigned pianist coach will play for the jury.
Student’s are responsible for making sure their pianist has the appropriate music scores and all markings and necessary information for the jury.

Submit the completed Jury Registration Form as outlined in a Canvas assignment for Vocal Repertory Class. Jury forms are due four weeks before the designated jury date.
Students are responsible for registering for a jury time as outlined in Canvas for Vocal Repertory Class. Jury signups are generally available 2-3 weeks before the date of the juries.

Dress in masterclass or performance attire according to the Voice Program Attire Guidelines used throughout the semester.
Warm up before you arrive at the jury location.
Arrive ready to sing at least ten minutes before your assigned time in case juries are ahead of schedule.

The adjudication panel uses the Voice Department Rubric to evaluate the jury performance.
The jury grade counts as 25% of the student’s private lesson grade.
The passing score for students in the B.M. degree program is 75%.
The passing score for students in the B.A. degree program is 65%.
Students who fall below the minimum grade will be placed on probation by the department.

Students on probation may, at the discretion of the department, be ineligible for state-sponsored lessons.
Students are responsible for remediating the material performed at the failed jury at the beginning of the subsequent semester. The responsibility for scheduling the remediation jury lies with the student, who must secure participation of their pianist coach, private voice teacher, the voice program head, and as many other voice faculty as are available.
Students who fail to remediate the jury, or who do not pass a jury in two consecutive semesters may be dismissed from the program, asked to change degree programs, or changed to a Music Minor.
