SSU’s Gail Hernández Rosa Named Favorite Instrumental Recitalist in Bay Area Awards

Violinist Gail Hernández Rosa—also a cherished faculty member in Sonoma State University’s Music Department—has been named Favorite Instrumental Recital in the 2024–2025 Bay Area Audience Choice Awards, as voted by readers of San Francisco Classical Voice.

Her award-winning performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with Marin Baroque on February 15 captivated listeners and was followed by a warm, complimentary reception. The Sonoma State music community beams with pride to see her artistry so widely recognized.

Rosa’s musical journey began in Puerto Rico, where she picked up the violin at age three. She went on to earn her master’s from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She later founded Beneath a Tree—an ensemble that earned top honors last year as both Best Chamber Music Ensemble and Best Early Music Ensemble in the same awards. She’s also lent her talent to the Valley of the Moon Festival, American Bach Festival, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Congratulations, Gail—we are very proud of your achievements!
