This concert is a program of rarely heard music and a traditional masterpiece. It will begin with a short piece for clarinet and piano, Cazonetta, by Pierné. This will be followed by Pierné’s Sonata for Cello and Piano. Pierné (16 August 1863 – 17 July 1937) was a fine organist as well as a composer who studied at the Paris Conservatory where he won the Prix du Rome. He studied organ with Cesar Franck and composition with Massenet. His music is soulful and rich with unexpected harmonies. The trios will begin with Robert Muczynski, (March 19, 1929 – May 25, 2010) a Polish American composer who was born in Chicago and died in Tucson. His music is lively and rhythmically interesting and his melodic writing is lovely. The concert will end with the wonderful Brahms Trio for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano.
