SSU Music presents an evening of wit, romance, and unforgettable melodies with scenes from two beloved operettas: Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II and The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár. Under the direction of Mary Evelyn Hangley, with collaborative pianist Yvonne Wormer, this lively production showcases SSU’s vocal students in a dynamic program of iconic ensembles, solos, and dramatic moments.

Selections from Die Fledermaus capture the energy of Strauss’s signature Viennese style, blending playful deception, romance, and celebration. Highlights include lively party scenes, comedic exchanges, and sparkling waltzes that drive the story’s sense of mischief and elegance.

In contrast, The Merry Widow offers a more lyrical and romantic sound world, balancing humor with sweeping emotion. The program features well-known moments such as the “Vilja Song” and “Lippen Schweigen,” alongside ensemble finales that showcase Lehár’s gift for rich harmonies and expressive storytelling.
