The music of Martin Rokeach has been performed throughout the United States and over twenty foreign countries. His works have earned honors in more than a dozen national and international competitions, most recently those held by Composers Concordance (NY) and the Atlanta Contemporary Ensemble. He has been commissioned to write for numerous soloists and ensembles, including the Oakland Symphony, New York’s Cygnus Ensemble, finalists in the 2012 Ellsworth-Smith International Trumpet Competition, principal players in the Detroit Opera and San Francisco Symphony and many others. He has been a featured composer at the Ecole Haute de Musique in Switzerland, Northern Arizona University, and Wichita State University, and concerts devoted exclusively to his music have taken place at Washington State and Western Carolina University. He is Professor Emeritus at Saint Mary’s College of California, where he taught composition, theory, and courses on his favorite composer, Johannes Brahms.

I thank Jill Brindel for inviting me to compose a work for the wonderful Navarro Trio. About “Let’s Get Out of Here”: Have you ever felt the need to escape from a situation, either by rushing headlong, tiptoeing, or some other means? To my ear this is the emotional landscape of the piece.
