The Sonoma State University Department of Music invites you to an exciting evening of big band jazz in the renowned Weill Hall at the Green Music Center. This special event features performances by two outstanding ensembles, showcasing the talent and energy of both student and professional musicians.
The evening begins with the Rancho Cotate High School Jazz Band, directed by SSU alum Dustin Friel, setting the stage with an impressive opening performance. Following them, the SSU Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Doug Leibinger, will present a dynamic program featuring classic and contemporary jazz compositions by Thad Jones, Billy May, Sammy Nestico, and original arrangements by Leibinger himself.
A unique highlight of this performance is our two vocalists, Ella Hoffman and Tony Sandoval, who will also be featured as instrumentalists on bass and piano, respectively—demonstrating the depth of talent within the ensemble.
As Doug Leibinger describes it, "Two great local big (jazz) bands perform in the amazing Weill Hall."
