New Music Sonoma, a vibrant showcase of contemporary composition held on April 17, 2025, in Schroeder Hall. The program features three innovative works: Loomings by Daniel Norris, We, the Dreamers by Jennifer Lynn Wilsey, and In C by minimalist pioneer Terry Riley. Loomings draws inspiration from Moby-Dick, combining spoken word, trumpet, percussion, and electronic media in a haunting, multi-layered performance. Wilsey’s We, the Dreamers brings dream-inspired texts to life through improvisation, guided by a mandala-based score that encourages deep listening and collaboration. The evening concludes with a performance of In C, where performers move freely through short musical fragments, creating a rich, evolving soundscape anchored by a steady rhythmic pulse.
