Symphonic Chorus and Concert Choir
Join us for the Sonoma State University’s Spring Choral Concert Friday, April 26th at 7:30 pm in Weill Hall at the Green Music Center. Guest baritone and SSU graduate Rodrigo Castillo will join SSU’s Symphonic Chorus and Concert for this celebration of spring.
2019 CMEA (California Music Educators Association) Bay Section Outstanding Choral Educator Award winner Dr. Jenny Bent leads the production. “This evening’s program spans the Renaissance through the present day… and also incorporates four languages,” Dr. Bent remarks, “Spiritual and/or secular love and peace, as well as forces that may challenge faith in either, unite tonight’s program selections.”
Highlighting the evening, vocal actor Rodrigo Castillo solos in the finale, Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughn Williams. The lyric, a spiritual and religious poem written by prodigious 16th century hymn composer George Herbert, was a favorite of Williams and provided him the inspiration for these give movements, nearly 300 years later.
