Please join the Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra (Owen Lee, Music Director) and the Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra (Alexander Kahn, Music Director) for an evening of the Music of the Spheres!

On Saturday April 25 at 7:30pm in Weill Hall these two orchestras will come together to perform music inspired by our galaxy (and beyond). On the first half of the program you'll hear the DVC Philharmonic perform three iconic works inspired by the stars: Franz Joseph Haydn's  Il mondo de la luna Overture, Ricard Strauss' Sunrise from Also Sprach Zarathustra, and Johann Strauss'  Blue Danube Waltz (both of which were featured in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey). The second half of the program is devoted to a performance by the SSU Symphony Orchestra and members of the SSU Symphonic Chorus of Holst's monumental orchestral masterpiece The Planets, inspired by the composer's fascination with both astrology and astronomy. The concert concludes with arguably the most famous space music of all, music from John Williams' Star Wars. Don't miss this epic musical journey through our solar system!
