Please join the Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra for Shostakovich Squared! We'll be performing two masterworks by Dmitri Shostakovich, whose music has been called the "Secret Diary of a Nation" for the way in which it subtly critiqued the Soviet regime during one the most repressive periods in modern history. The first half of the concert features the composer's sparkling and witty Second Piano Concerto, with soloist and 2022 Concerto Competition winner Hikaru Hallberg. The second half of the program features the composer's epic Fifth Symphony, arguably the composer's most famous and thrilling work. The concert opens with a brief work by Victor Ewald, performed by the SSU Brass Ensemble under the direction of Dan Norris.
