Keith Brion rehearses the SSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble

World renowned bandmaster Keith Brion will guest conduct the Sonoma State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble on a program of wind band classics at 7:30 pm May 13 in Weill Hall at the Green Music Center.

Brion received international acclaim as founder and leader of the New Sousa Band, a reincarnation of John Philip Sousa’s touring band – the most popular musical act in the world at the turn of the twentieth century. Brion's portrayal of The March King includes Sousa's conducting mannerisms and stage appearance from the 1920's, replicas of his baton, uniform and white gloves. Brion’s investigation of the Sousa Band's period performance technique has led to numerous modern editions of Sousa's orchestral and band music. Brion will conduct the Sonoma State ensemble in Hovhaness’ Three Journeys to a Holy Mountainand Sousa’s rarely heard The Royal Welch Fusiliers march.

The concert will feature the Diablo Valley College Symphonic Band led by Jonathan Knight. The newly formed Sonoma State Concert Band will open the program.

Tickets are $8, parking included. For information call 664-4246 or email tickets.sonoma.edu.

Weill Hall at the Green Music Center is located two miles east of Highway 101 on Rohnert Park Expressway.
