Two Winners Named in 2nd Annual Concerto Competition
Six Sonoma State Music majors competed in the second annual Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition on March 23. Orchestra conductor and head judge Alexander Kahn has announced that Jamelia Brown, soprano and Spencer Causey, horn, are the winners.
Brown, a junior Voice major, performed four songs by Richard Strauss, including “Zueignung,” “Die Nacht,” and “Allerseelen” from Acht Gedichte aus “Letzte Blätter” Op. 10, and “Cäcilie” from Vier Lieder Op. 27 No. 2, accompanied by pianist Yvonne Wormer.
Causey, a freshman Horn major, performed Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2 in E-flat, K. 417, accompanied by Marilyn Thompson.
Brown and Causey will be featured soloists in the orchestra’s 2017-18 season.
