Junior Recitals Performance

Junior Recital Requirements

The junior recital is a program comprising approximately 30 minutes of music. The recital should be representative of the repertoire list and academic guidelines determined by your studio instructor and program director.

The junior recital may be performed anytime during the junior year of study. Students may combine to present a joint junior recital.

Your recital may be scheduled during the Repertory class, or as an afternoon or evening performance. Consult with your studio instructor and faculty advisor/program director before scheduling your recital.

A collaborative pianist will be assigned to you. Yvonne Wormer will assign pianists for vocal recitals. Marilyn Thompson will assign pianists for instrumental recitals.

The recital will be evaluated and graded by a faculty panel composed of your studio instructor and faculty advisor/program director.

Junior Recital Steps

  • Register for MUS 397 Junior Recital (1 unit) at the beginning of the semester.
  • Set your recital and recital hearing dates. Refer to the Department of Music website for a list of available dates. Consult with your studio instructor, accompanist, faculty advisor/program director, and any assisting musicians before selecting a date.
  • Submit the Recital Request Form. Email completed form to Brooke Tester before the end of October.
  • Schedule rehearsals with your accompanist/assisting musicians.
  • Create your Junior Recital Program and Poster (refer to the guidelines in the Posters and Programs link).
  • Submit the Student Recital Tech Event Form 6 weeks before your event.
  • Complete your Recital Hearing at least 4 weeks before your recital.

Junior Recital Hearing

  • Students are required to pass a recital hearing for a faculty panel approximately 4 weeks prior to the scheduled recital date. The recital hearing ensures the student and all assisting musicians are prepared for the performance.
  • Your studio instructor and faculty advisor will provide you with information as to how the recital hearing is evaluated. Students who do not pass the recital hearing must remediate before performing the recital.
  • Be prepared to bring a copy of your recital program and recital poster to the hearing (if required).
